Angles
Perspective helps us to understand situations from other positions, to consider other beliefs, experiences and viewpoints. This gives us a better understanding and greater empathy. It reduces bias, judgment and reduces conflict.
What are some things you know that you need to see from a different angle? Where are you stuck in your own perspective on important adoption issues? Do you want to develop greater empathy and reduce conflict?

Placement Readiness: Attachment and Bonding
Mandated Adoptive Family Evaluation Training
For adopted children, their attachment bond is broken, sometimes multiple times. A strong positive bond is important in an adoption because it provides the foundation to meet the child’s needs for care, protection, nurturance, consistency and love, which helps facilitate the child’s attachment to the parent.

Identity Development begins in childhood and takes on increased importance and prominence during adolescence. Adoption is a significant aspect of identity for an adopted person. Additionally, US studies have found that adopted children are at a greater risk of experiencing emotional and behavior problems than non-adopted children.

Placement Readiness: Safe Sleep, Impact of Adoption on The family, and Post Adoption Service Availability
Mandated Adoptive Family Evaluation Training
While evidence has shown that placing a baby in a safe sleep environment every time can dramatically reduce the rate of SIDS and accidental suffocation, many parents and caregivers do not consistently adhere to these practices. We will also discuss how after months or years of anticipating parenthood, the excitement of the actual adoption can give way to a feeling of being “let down” or sadness in some.
