We approached Greater Hopes and another agency when we linked up with an expecting mother who was looking for adoptive parents. We wanted an agency that would be supportive of the birth Mom, which is why we chose Greater Hopes. Also Cathy was much more realistic, saying “adoption is 50/50” in terms of whether the child would be with us forever or not due to the possibility that his birth Mom would choose to parent or something else would happen. The other agency basically said 100% everything would work out fine and suggested that they would convince the birth Mom, the birth Dad’s rights were no problem, etc. So while the other agency said what we wanted to hear, Cathy was more supportive of the birth Mom and realistic.

Our experience with Cathy and Diana during an expedited home study (we had 6-8 weeks before the baby’s due date to complete it) was great. We live an hour away and have a pre-schooler at home, and thankfully they were accommodating of our desire to not drive to the office frequently, instead coming to our home and meeting via Zoom. There was a more urgent delivery/situation at the time of the birth Mom’s delivery so there was not a lot of support for her right after birth unfortunately. But after that there was I believe excellent support offered to her, and the support for us as adoptive parents was top notch throughout. Cathy obviously has a lot of experience in terms of what we may be thinking/feeling at different points in the process. After the birth Dad requested custody, they linked us up to an experienced lawyer who thoughtfully helped the birth Mom in termination of his rights and supported her well in that stressful process.

We are now blessed with a wonderful boy with a good ongoing relationship with his birth Mom.

Greater Hope’s was different to us right from the start! Cathy took our call and answered all of the questions that we needed prior to going to orientation.
